Concrete gets the majority of its strength from a chemical glue called calcium silicate hydrate (CSH). Fortified™ subcontractors know how to increase the ratio of this strength enhancing CSH.
-
Ancient Roman concrete contained a high ratio of aluminum, which allowed it to develop properties that outmatch modern Portland cement concrete. Fortified™ subcontractors know how to fortify their concrete with calcium aluminum hydrates, also known as the AFt/AFm phases - a key chemical component to Roman masterpieces like the Pantheon and Coliseum.
-
A sign of strong concrete is when the PSI exceeds the PSI specified by the engineer.
-
A minus sign indicates “cost savings”, while a plus sign indicates a “cost premium.” While some sustainable materials cost more than conventional materials (hence the term “green premium”), some are a “win-win” - meaning they have no green premium, or they even have a savings.

FAQs
-
We gather documents from the subcontractor to calculate the embodied carbon of at least 3 completed jobs. For concrete, if the subcontractor hits the Top 10% - meaning the embodied carbon of 3 mixes is lower than 90% of the mixes in the region - then we verify them as a Fortified™ subcontractor.
-
Fortified™ subcontractors can help you build on-time and on-budget because they know how to wield novel, low carbon materials.
-
Fortified™ concrete subcontractors can submit competitive bids because these subcontractors buy concrete with less Portland cement clinker, and more pozzolans - which costs less than clinker.
